Worcester’s traditional outdoor weekly market is set to move to the Corn Market from September, where it will take place on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Worcester City Council has reached an agreement with new operator Bluebell Events to run the weekly outdoor market in the new location between 9am and 4pm.
The City Council secured a new provider after Cotswold Markets decided to stop running the weekly market in Angel Place. This decision did not affect the popular craft market which Cotswold Markets continues to deliver twice a month along the High Street.
The new weekly outdoor market in Corn Market will sell a range of goods and produce, much as it did in Angel Place. This will begin on Thursday 3 September and local businesses and traders in the area have been informed of the change.
Bluebell Events will be on hand at the new market, giving shoppers the opportunity to meet the team behind the operation. The company already runs the Droitwich market on Fridays, as well as a range of one-off market events across the region.
Chloe Ford of Bluebell Events said: “We are very excited by the opportunity Worcester brings to Bluebell Events and are very much looking forward to working with the local council, businesses and people to truly make this a thriving success.
“We are committed to giving Worcester a high-quality weekly market that supports the city’s enterprise and creates a true destination for visitors. We welcome enquiries from traders, established or new, who are interested in having a stall on Thursdays or Saturdays
“Anybody interested in the market or with any queries are welcome to email us at info@bluebellevents.co.uk”
Councillor Lynn Denham, Worcester City Council Leader, said: “It’s fantastic news that Worcester’s weekly market will continue in a new location.
“Markets are an important part of the city’s offer, helping to attract shoppers and visitors. The market in Angel Place has been a valued part of the city centre for more than 30 years.
“We are pleased to have found a new operator and I hope the move to the Corn Market will help the market continue to thrive for many years to come.”
Councillor Hannah Cooper, Vice Chair of Worcester City Council’s Place & Economic Development Committee, said: “I am looking forward to seeing the new market get underway and develop in the months ahead.
“Maintaining a weekly market in Worcester is important because of the role it plays in supporting local traders and attracting visitors into our city.
“It’s great to see Bluebell Events stepping forward to deliver the market, and I wish them every success.”
