The Worcester Pear Trail is here!

A brand-new heritage trail celebrating Worcester’s rich history and iconic pear connection is now live!.

Created in partnership between Worcester BID and Visit Worcestershire, The Worcester Pear Trail will run from 20th July until 4th September and will feature 10 heritage-themed pear sculptures displayed in business windows across Worcester city centre.

To further transform the city centre for the summer, 35 business windows will also be adorned with bespoke pear blossom artwork, creating a wider experience for residents and visitors alike.

The pear sculptures and blossom window artwork for the campaign have been designed by Worcester BID’s Creative Lead, Catt Standen.

Samantha McCarthy, CEO of Worcester BID said, “We are delighted to be partnering with Visit Worcestershire to help drive tourism into Worcester and encourage more people to experience everything the city has to offer. The Worcester Pear Trail provides a fun and interactive way for visitors and residents alike to explore Worcester’s rich heritage while supporting local businesses throughout the summer.”

Alongside the trail, Worcester BID will also host a series of community workshops in collaboration with The Hive, engaging pupils from local schools to help create a pear blossom archway installation.

The project takes inspiration from Queen Elizabeth I’s historic visit to Worcester, where she was greeted by an orchard of pear trees and famously picked a pear directly from one of the trees herself, a story which remains an important part of the city’s heritage today and pears can be spotted across the city centre to this day!

Lorna Robinson, Visitor Economy and Destination Manager of Visit Worcestershire said, “The Worcester Pear Trail shows what can be achieved through strong partnership working, bringing together our businesses, creativity and heritage to deliver something truly accessible & engaging for the summer. It offers a simple, fun way for families and visitors to explore Worcester’s rich history, supporting our wider ‘Summer of Heritage’ campaign across the County. Most importantly, it’s another reason for people to spend time in the city, discover its stories, and see first-hand why the City and wider Worcestershire holds such an important place in England’s history.”

Each pear sculpture will feature a QR code, allowing visitors to learn more about Worcester’s pear heritage and the stories behind each trail location. Participants will be able to complete the trail digitally via a free pass  (PRESS HERE TO SIGN UP) or using printed trail maps that can be picked up at The Worcester Tourist Information Centre

As you hunt for the Pear sculptures, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for our pear blossom themed window at across the city, and if you’ve completed the sculpture trail and want to find all of the window art locations, you can view the map here. WINDOW ART LOCATIONS

Lift-Off for Accessibility at Worcester’s Swan Theatre

Lift-Off for Accessibility at Worcester’s Swan Theatre

There’s more good news for Worcester’s cultural quarter as the Swan Theatre unveils a brand-new accessible platform lift, helping make one of the city’s most-loved venues even more welcoming for visitors, audiences and community groups.

Installed with support from Worcester City Council through UK Shared Prosperity Fund investment, the new lift improves access between floors within the theatre, making it easier for people with mobility requirements to enjoy performances, workshops and events at the venue.

The investment is a significant step forward for accessibility at the Swan Theatre, which plays a vital role in Worcester’s cultural life and attracts thousands of visitors to the city centre each year. As Worcester’s only professional theatre, the venue is home to performances, youth theatre programmes, community activities and creative opportunities for people of all ages.

The official opening brought together representatives from Worcester Theatres, Worcester City Council, volunteers and young people from the Swan Youth Theatre’s Relaxed Sessions programme, highlighting the theatre’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the arts are accessible to everyone.

The new platform lift will support patrons accessing the auditorium, participants attending workshops and community groups using the theatre’s upstairs spaces. It also reflects wider efforts to improve visitor experiences across Worcester’s cultural venues.

Investments like this strengthen Worcester’s reputation as a vibrant, inclusive city where culture, creativity and community continue to thrive.

From live performances and workshops to family events and youth programmes, the Swan Theatre remains an important part of the city centre experience — and this latest improvement ensures even more people can enjoy everything it has to offer.

Bike Worcester and Worcester BID launch new initiative to support sustainability and active travel

Bike Worcester and Worcester BID have teamed up to launch a new campaign encouraging the use of reusable water bottles and celebrating those who choose to travel by bike.

Eye-catching “Refill Here” stickers will be offered to cafés, bars and hospitality venues across the city. These will let passers-by know they are welcome to step inside and refill their reusable bottles at no cost. The idea has already proven successful in other UK towns and cities, where similar schemes have been shown to reduce the number of single-use bottles littering streets and waterways.

In addition ‘Thanks for Cycling’ stickers will be deployed on bike racks and stands throughout the city as a small gesture of gratitude to those choosing to travel into the city centre on two wheels, another initiative seen in other UK cities.

This approach also encourages people to support local businesses and discover venues they may not have visited before, often leading them to return as paying customers.

Samantha McCarthy, CEO of Worcester BID, said:

“We want Worcester to be a city that supports people in choosing active and sustainable ways to get around. This initiative is a great way for our business community to show their care for visitors and residents. By offering free water refills and recognising those who travel by bike, we can help reduce plastic pollution, enhance the visitor experience and play a part in making Worcester a more welcoming, greener and forward-thinking city.”

Danny Brothwell, Chair of Bike Worcester, said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Worcester BID on this project. Inviting people into establishments to refill water bottles is incredibly welcoming and will also reduce the use of single-use water bottles. I’ve made use of similar schemes in other towns and cities, and it’s fantastic that Worcester is also rolling it out. It’s a lovely gesture from establishments and often results in the recipient spending money on something else, or remembering the venue for a return visit.”

The project also introduces “Thanks for Cycling” stickers for bike racks around Worcester. This small but meaningful message aims to make cyclists feel valued and appreciated, encouraging more people to consider two wheels as a practical, healthy and environmentally friendly way of travelling.

Danny continued:

“The ‘Thank you for Cycling’ message is also something I’ve experienced elsewhere and is a great way to encourage people to choose a bike as a mode of transport. This fits in perfectly with the Government and Council aims to increase cycling and walking, which improves the city for everyone. Cycling still tops the chart as the most space and energy efficient mode of transport humans have invented.”

Worcester BID, Bike Worcester and Cycling Enthusiasts celebrating the Refill Scheme for 2026!

In other UK areas where the national Refill campaign has been introduced, the results have been significant. According to the campaign’s 2022 Impact Report, 86% of people are now more likely to carry a reusable bottle and refill on the go after encountering Refill signage, and almost three-quarters have refilled as a direct result of seeing a sticker in a café window. Water UK has estimated that if just one in ten people in the country refilled their bottle once a week, it would prevent around 340 million single-use plastic bottles from being used each year.

Hydration stations, funded by Worcester City Council, are also located at the entrance of Chapel Walk (Broad Street) and on Pump Street, offering convenient outdoor refill spots for City visitors. This is especially beneficial as the UK experiences an increase in heatwaves, helping keep everyone cool and hydrated while reducing single-use plastic waste.

This two-pronged sticker initiative is part of a shared commitment by Bike Worcester and Worcester BID to support a cleaner, greener and more vibrant city.

Cathedral Square Gears Up for the Races with an Exclusive "Golden Horseshoe Hunt"

To celebrate the upcoming “Cathedral Square Goes to The Races” event, bringing Ladies’ Day to the streets of the Square on Saturday, June 6th, 2026, Cathedral Square invites visitors to take part in a week-long Golden Horseshoe Hunt. Starting Tuesday, May 26th, 2026, during the May half-term, hidden golden horseshoes will be scattered throughout the square for eagle-eyed visitors to discover.

Participating is simple: visitors are encouraged to explore Cathedral Square, and its venues on the High Street, Pump Street, and College Street to locate the hidden treasures. Once a golden horseshoe is found, it can be taken to a participating store to claim a prize.

To help hunters on their quest, Cathedral Square will be sharing exclusive clues and competition hints via their social media channels:

  • Facebook: @cathedralsqworc
  • Instagram: @cathedralsq

Lucky winners will have the chance to secure a variety of premium prizes from popular local businesses and brands. The treasure trove of rewards includes:

  • Dining & Treats: Vouchers from Popeyes and Five Guys gift boxes from Hotel Chocolat, sharing platters from All Bar One, and vouchers from Muffin Break and Coffee#1.
  • Entertainment: Group escape room experience from Escape Hunt Worcester and free golf game vouchers from Mr Mulligans!
  • Lifestyle & Fitness: One-month memberships at Topnotch Gym, themed races piercing from Four Leaf Piercing, and even a house plant from The Jungle Club.

Holly Wood, Operations Assistant for Martin Commercial Properties Limited, said:

“We’re excited to bring the Golden Horseshoe Hunt to Cathedral Square as it’s a fantastic opportunity for all our tenants to come together and be part of something fun, engaging, and community-focused.

Events like this help drive footfall across the whole Square, encourage visitors to explore businesses they may not have visited before, and create a real buzz ahead of our ‘Cathedral Square Goes to The Races’ event.

It’s a great way for tenants to showcase what they offer while being involved in an experience that brings people into the city centre during the half-term period.”

The Golden Horseshoe Hunt serves as the perfect warm-up for the main event, “Cathedral Square Goes to The Races,” taking place on Saturday, June 6th, 2026. This upcoming celebration promises a day of racing-themed fun, community spirit, and high-energy entertainment for all visitors.

Don’t miss your chance to join the hunt, win incredible prizes, and prepare for a fantastic day at the races.

WORCESTER CELEBRATES 35 YEARS OF THE MIDLANDS AIR AMBULANCE CHARITY AS IT MARKS INCREDIBLE MILESTONE

WORCESTER CELEBRATES 35 YEARS OF THE MIDLANDS AIR AMBULANCE CHARITY AS IT MARKS INCREDIBLE MILESTONE

Celebrating the lifesaving organisation ahead of its official 35th anniversary tomorrow, 21st May 2026

The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity is celebrating a monumental milestone! Tomorrow, Thursday 21st May 2026, marks exactly 35 years since the official launch of the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, an indispensable service that has provided advanced clinical care and saved countless lives across Worcestershire and the wider region since May 1991.

From its humble beginnings operating just a single helicopter three and a half decades ago, the charity has grown through continuous innovation, experience, and an unwavering commitment to rapid medical response. Today, it operates an advanced fleet of helicopters and multiple critical care cars, ensuring that trauma treatment reaches those who need it most within minutes.

Because the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity receives no direct government or National Lottery funding for its daily missions, its survival relies entirely on the generosity of local people and businesses.

How You Can Show Your Support

As we celebrate this 35-year milestone, here are the most impactful ways you can help ensure they are here for another 35 years:

  • Business Partnerships: Local businesses can become corporate sponsors, choose the charity for charity-of-the-year partnerships, or place donation tins at checkout points.
  • Volunteer Your Time: Follow in the footsteps of volunteers like Alison Hill, the charity’s longest-standing staff member, who joined as a volunteer in 2004 and now manages the volunteer network. Dedicated volunteers are the heart of the charity’s family.
  • Donations and Shopping: Support the charity locally by dropping off your donations or browsing the excellent selection of goods at our city-centre branch.

Find the Worcester’s Midlands Air Ambulance Charity Shop in Friary Walk, Worcester(formerly known as Crowngate Shopping Centre).

Happy 35 years!

Award-Winning Worcester Plant Business Returns to the City Centre with Chapel Walk Opening

Award-Winning Worcester Plant Business Returns to the City Centre with Chapel Walk Opening.

An award-winning Worcester independent business has officially returned to the city centre with the opening of its new store in Chapel Walk Worcester.
Plantamamita, known for its specialist indoor plants, botanical styling and immersive workshops, has made a phenomenal start since opening the doors to its beautifully designed new unit, attracting strong interest both online and from visitors to the centre.

The business was previously based within Worcester city centre before relocating to larger premises on London Road, where it continued to grow a loyal customer base and expand its offering. The new Chapel Walk opening now gives Plantamamita a renewed city centre presence alongside its established London Road location.

Adding to the excitement surrounding the opening, Plantamamita has also recently been recognised at the prestigious RHS Malvern Spring Festival, where the business was awarded a 4 Star Trade stand Award — highlighting the quality, creativity and presentation that has helped make the business so popular across Worcestershire.

The opening follows the successful relocation of long-standing independent retailer Knit N Stuff, which recently moved from its Chapel Walk unit into a larger premises in Friary Walk after outgrowing its original location due to continued success and customer demand.

The move created the opportunity for Plantamamita to return to the city centre and bring its distinctive plant-focused retail experience into Chapel Walk.

Mike Lloyd, Centre Manager at Chapel & Friary Walk Worcester, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to welcome Plantamamita to Chapel Walk Worcester. The response from visitors has already been fantastic and the shop itself looks absolutely stunning.
It is especially positive to see successful independent businesses continuing to invest in Worcester. Knit N Stuff’s move into a larger unit in Friary Walk is a brilliant example of growth within the centre, and it has allowed another established Worcester business to return to the city centre with an exciting new presence in Chapel Walk.
The recent recognition at RHS Malvern Spring Festival also highlights the passion, creativity and quality behind the business, and we are excited to see Plantamamita continue to grow within the city centre.”

Liuva Chacon, Owner of Plantamamita, said:
“We are incredibly grateful for all the opportunities coming our way. As an independent family-run business, we approach every opportunity with hard work, determination and a genuine passion for what we do — something that originally started in a garden shed during lockdown.

None of this would be possible without the amazing support we have received from the Worcester community.

The success we experienced at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival has also resulted in an invitation from the RHS to appear at the Badminton Flower Show in July, where we will be creating a gazebo-style ‘Houseplant Extravaganza’.

Alongside our new Chapel Walk store, we will continue trading at markets across the Five Counties and keep growing the business we love. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in.”

Plantamamita arrival continues the ongoing evolution of Chapel & Friary Walk Worcester, with a growing mix of independent retailers, national brands and experience-led businesses helping strengthen Worcester’s retail and leisure offering.

Visitors are encouraged to pop in, explore the new store and discover more about the workshops and immersive experiences planned by the Plantamamita team.
