The Sweet Greeks Cafe on Mealcheapen Street is inviting local food enthusiasts to experience an authentic taste of the Mediterranean, announcing the return of its popular Greek Tasting Nights.
Next up is a spoooooky, Saturday, 31st October!
Starting from 6:00 pm and running late into the evening, the event offers guests a full culinary journey featuring a specially curated tasting menu, traditional music, and live Greek dancing.
Speaking to the team about the evening events, they added: “Our Greek Nights are really special to us because they’re about much more than just the food. We want to bring a little piece of Greece to Worcester — authentic homemade dishes, traditional flavours, Greek music and that warm, lively atmosphere you’d experience back home.
Our next Greeknight dates are on the 31st of October for both shops Worcester & Droitwich”
The dining experience begins with a selection of classic starters, including homemade tzatziki dip infused with dill oil and served alongside fresh pitta bread. This is accompanied by deep fried halloumi with sweet chilli sauce, homemade beef meatballs cooked in a mildly spiced herbal tomato sauce, and a seasonal salad of red and white cabbage, oranges, clementines, and pomegranate dressed in balsamic vinegar and olive oil.
For the main course, diners can choose from three iconic Mediterranean dishes: Kleftiko (slow-cooked lamb shank served with mashed potatoes and a rosemary and thyme jus), Pork Lemonato (chunks of pork fillet in a creamy white wine and fresh lemon sauce served with rice), or a traditional Moussaka made using a beloved family recipe featuring grilled aubergine, courgette, potatoes, slowly braised beef ragu, and rich béchamel sauce. Vegetarian and vegan options are also available across the event upon request.
To finish, guests will be served a sweet selection featuring a Kataifi roll (shredded pastry filled with nuts and honey syrup), traditional Greek orange cake, and vanilla ice cream.
The tasting night is priced at £45 per person, with food included and a full range of cocktails and regional wines available to purchase separately throughout the evening.
Tables must be booked directly in advance via the venue website at www.thesweetgreeks.co.uk by selecting the Greek Nights option.

Fresh Nous named finalist for Small Apprenticeship Employer of the Year 2026

Worcester marketing agency shortlisted alongside Hewitt Recruitment and UK Electrical Installations at the Worcestershire Apprenticeships Awards
Fresh Nous, the Worcester-based customer experience and digital marketing consultancy, has been named one of three finalists for Small Apprenticeship Employer of the Year at the 2026 Worcestershire Apprenticeships Awards.
The category, sponsored by the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, recognises small employers whose apprenticeship programmes make a genuine difference to the people on them. Fresh Nous is shortlisted alongside Hewitt Recruitment and UK Electrical Installations, two well-established Worcestershire businesses with long-standing apprenticeship track records, being named in the same group is a mark of the standard Fresh Nous has reached.
Fresh Nous, founded in 2014 and headed up by Celia Felgate, currently supports two marketing degree apprentices, who work alongside experienced marketers on live client accounts. Higher level apprenticeships like these give people a route to keep developing their skills well beyond their first step into a career, through training that is structured and formally recognised.
“As a small business, everyone at Fresh Nous wears several hats and that includes our apprentices. From day one, they rolled up their sleeves and got stuck into real client work, knowing their input is valid, while being supported by marketers with decades of experience in strategy, communication and stakeholder management. That balance is what makes it work so well for us and for our clients. We are genuinely proud of what our apprentices bring to this business, from developing customer experience plans, managing campaigns and helping win new work to researching which tech trends are worth chasing and which will not stand the test of time. Being named alongside businesses like Hewitt Recruitment and UK Electrical Installations, who clearly feel the same way about their people, means a great deal to us.” Celia Felgate, Director, Fresh Nous
Fresh Nous would like to thank Worcestershire Apprenticeships, Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, and Worcestershire County Council for organising the awards and for the nomination itself. The team is looking forward to celebrating with the other finalists at the awards ceremony at the end of November at West Midlands Safari Park.

Remade celebrates three years of community reuse in Worcester

Remade is celebrating three years since opening the doors of its store in Worcester, marking a significant milestone for the community organisation and the growing team of volunteers who help make its work possible.
To mark the anniversary, Remade welcomed Matt Jenkins, Leader of Worcestershire Council, and Worcester City Mayor, Councillor Tor Pingree, to meet staff, trustees and volunteers and hear about the organisation’s progress.
Matt Jenkins has supported Remade since its inception and has continued to take an interest in its development. During the visit, Matt and Councillor Pingree spoke with members of the team and heard about Remades’ achievements and plans for the future.
Remade founder Sue Fry welcomed the guests, alongside trustees Gill Hutchinson, Gordon Whittaker, Lisa Compton and Jacky Courtney, staff, volunteers and the organisation’s new Creative Learning Resources Advisor, Charlotte Hutchinson.
The visit provided an opportunity to reflect on just how far Remade has come since the store opened three years ago. The organisation now has an amazing 44 volunteers, whose time, skills and enthusiasm are central to its success.
“Three years ago, we opened the doors with a vision of creating a place where useful materials could be saved from landfill and made available to the community,” said Sue Fry, founder.. “To see how Remade has grown, and to now have 44 wonderful volunteers supporting us, is fantastic. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped us along the way.”
Remade collects materials that might otherwise go to landfill and makes them available for reuse, creative projects, education and practical activities. We estimate 7,000kg have been saved so far. The organisation is continuing to develop its work with schools, nurseries, colleges, universities, community groups and other organisations to encourage creative reuse and make the most of resources that might otherwise be discarded.
Following the speeches and introductions, guests and the Remade team celebrated the anniversary together over tea and a selection of homemade cakes.
As Remade looks towards its fourth year, the organisation is keen to build on its success and continue developing its community of customers, volunteers, donors and partners. Sue Fry added: “Our anniversary is a chance to celebrate everyone who has played a part in the Remade story. We’re looking forward to seeing what the next three years bring.”

A spotlight on Three Counties Produce: Local and fresh

From a humble Angel Place market stall to a four-generation fresh produce powerhouse, discover how Worcester’s Thompson family continues to nourish the local community.
When you trace the lineage of Worcester’s high street food scene, few names carry the heritage of the Thompson family. With over 100 years of greengrocery experience, their story began with selling fresh fish from market stalls in Angel Place.
Four generations later, directors Rob and James Thompson, who grew up taking early-morning trips to the Birmingham wholesale market with their father, Terry, lead Three Counties Produce. The business balances high street retail with extensive regional wholesale distribution.
What They Offer
Whether supplying a bustling city-centre kitchen or providing fresh daily fruit to home cooks, Three Counties Produce bridges the gap between local growers and local plates.
- Wholesale & Catering: Dedicated account management and daily deliveries for local restaurants, pubs, farm shops, and schools.
- Fresh Fruit, Vegetables & Herbs: A daily selection ranging from staple root crops to exotic herbs and specialist culinary ingredients.
- Local Retail Locations: Operating out of their flagship Church Street shop in Worcester City Centre, as well as retail outlets at Bevere and Webbs of Wychbold.
By prioritising growers across Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, and Herefordshire, Three Counties Produce reduces food miles while ensuring field-to-fork traceability. Through long-standing ties to major regional hubs like the Birmingham Wholesale Market, they also source global produce while keeping local seasonality front and centre.

A Class of Its Own: 80 Years of the University of Worcester
From a post-war emergency teacher training college to a powerhouse of higher education, inclusion, and regional identity, we look at eight decades of transforming lives on the banks of the Severn.
In 1946, as Britain picked itself up after the devastation of the Second World War, a small emergency teacher training college opened its doors in Worcester. Its mission was clear: prepare a new generation of educators to rebuild the nation’s future.
Fast forward 80 years, and while the scale has transformed, the purpose remains strikingly unchanged.
This year, the University of Worcester celebrates its 80th anniversary. What began with a few hundred trainees has evolved into a world-class institution, spanning the vibrant St John’s, City, Severn, and Lakeside campuses—educating thousands of students each year across nursing, medicine, teaching, science, the arts, and business.
Eight Decades, One Purpose
Walk through the historic grounds today and you will see an institution that refuses to stand still. From the pioneering opening of The Hive, Europe’s first joint university and public library, to the state-of-the-art Three Counties Medical School and the internationally recognised Worcester Arena, the university’s physical footprint has continually reshaped the city’s skyline and cultural landscape.
Capturing the Voices of Worcester
To mark the landmark year, the university is launching an ambitious Oral History Project, capturing memories, anecdotes, and reflections from former staff, alumni, and local partners.
From the swinging ’60s at Henwick Grove to the digital revolution of the 21st century, these shared experiences form a living archive of an institution that grew alongside the cathedral city itself.

Looking Ahead
An 80th anniversary is an ideal moment to look back, but for Worcester, the gaze remains firmly on what’s next. As the university expands its medical, research, and sustainability initiatives, its role as an economic and cultural engine for the region is secure.
Here’s to 80 years of history, 80 years of opportunity, and the generations of students yet to make their mark.

First established in 1958, the salon was originally opened as Jon’s by its founder, Mr Jon. Over the decades, Mr Jon became a beloved figure within the local community until his passing in 2021, laying down a strong legacy of craftsmanship, high standards, and welcoming service that continues to define the salon today.

We will be hosting a year’s celebration party in November and supporting a charity which is close to one of our clients’ hearts and for a very brave young lady… but all will be revealed soon.
Thanks for everyone’s continuing support”

New Cornmarket location: market success in first weeks
Worcester’s traditional weekly outdoor market is enjoying early success following its move to the Cornmarket.
Under new management with operator Bluebell Events, the Thursday and Saturday market relocated from Angel Place, transforming the open space into a lively shopping destination. The reaction from both visitors and local businesses has been overwhelmingly positive, with traders reporting strong footfall.
Beyond bringing a fresh variety of local goods and produce, the move has noticeably improved the approach into the city centre. Whether arriving on foot or passing in the car and noticing the stalls, or walking from the direction of Asda and Lowesmoor, commuters and shoppers are greeted by a vibrant, active streetscape that enhances the overall look and atmosphere of the area.
The market operates every Thursday and Saturday from 9am to 4pm, offering everything from artisan produce to everyday essentials.
Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Tor Pingree, officially opened the new market and said she welcomed the return to the historic market square. Also in attendance, Cllr Hannah Cooper praised the new market’s setup and location, highlighting how the Cornmarket benefits from footfall heading to St Martin’s Quarter.
The relocation marks a successful new chapter for Worcester’s independent trading scene, turning Cornmarket into a key focal point for city centre activity.

Nailing It For 24: All About Me’s 24-Hour Non-Stop Nail Marathon!

Worcester independent salon All About Me is gearing up for a 24-hour charity challenge, taking on a non-stop nail marathon from 11am Saturday 3rd October through to 11am Sunday 4th October.
During the event, two nail technicians will work side-by-side around the clock. 100% of the proceeds from every single appointment will be donated directly to two causes close to the team’s hearts: Breakthrough T1D and Dementia UK. The causes are deeply personal to the team—team member Molly lives with Type 1 diabetes, while owner Amy’s family is currently navigating the impact of dementia as her father’s condition progresses.
“The idea came from Molly, who thought I’d say no. Instead, somehow, the whole team said yes!
We’re raising money for Breakthrough T1D, as Molly lives with Type 1 diabetes, and Dementia UK, which is very close to my heart as my dad is living with dementia.
We’ve already had incredible support, from local businesses as well as national and global brands, all getting behind us and donating some amazing prizes.
We also hope the event brings our local beauty industry together. Whether you’re a salon or a solo therapist, it can sometimes feel like an isolating industry. We’d love to build more of a community where we can support each other, ask questions, share what works (and what doesn’t!) and learn from one another.
Two charities, 24 hours of nails and one slightly crazy team… what could possibly go wrong?”
To make the marathon a success, the salon is looking to fill hourly gel nail appointments—including overnight slots at 2am, 4am, and 6am—costing £35 for gel nails or £40 with removal. Additionally, All About Me is inviting qualified external nail technicians from across Worcester and the surrounding areas to step in and volunteer a shift alongside the team.
Beyond appointments, the salon will also run a charity raffle with prizes to be announced in the coming weeks, with all proceeds donated to the cause.
To book a treatment slot, volunteer as a guest technician, or enter the raffle, pop into the Sidbury salon or contact All About Me via direct message, phone, or email.

Member Spotlight: Celebrating 12 Years of Francini Café de Colombia
Today, we are proud to share the story of Francini Café, a family-run business that has brought the vibrant flavours, rich culture, and world-class coffee of Colombia directly to the heart of Worcester for over a decade.
The roots of Francini Café trace back over 90 years to Quindío, one of Colombia’s most famous coffee-growing regions. For the Francini Osorio family, coffee is far more than a trade; it is a deep family heritage passed down through generations.
Twelve years ago, the family chose Worcester as the place to share that heritage with the UK, opening their very first café right here in our city.
“Coffee is not simply a business for us; it is part of our family heritage and something that has been passed down through generations,” explains the Francini Osorio family. “Twelve years ago, we brought that family tradition to Worcester and opened Francini Café with the aim of sharing authentic Colombian coffee and culture with the local community.”
From Quindío to the Heart of Worcester
What sets Francini Café apart is their dedication to quality and control over every stage of the process. The coffee served in their Worcester café and sold online is imported directly from Colombia. A portion is harvested on their own family farm, while the rest is sourced from Colombian farms sharing their strict commitment to clean processing and exceptional quality. Once imported into the UK, the team roasts the beans themselves in Liverpool to ensure optimum freshness.
Today, their footprint has expanded well beyond Worcester, supplying independent coffee shops across England, launching an online shop selling imported Colombian cacao, and opening a second location in Formby, Liverpool, last October.
But Worcester remains the foundation of their journey:
“Worcester will always have a very special place in our story,” the family shares. “When we opened our first café here 12 years ago, there were very few cafés and restaurants around us. Over the years, we have watched the area develop, with more independent businesses joining the community around us. Rather than seeing this as competition, we have found it incredibly motivating.”
A Taste of Authentic Colombian Culture
Beyond their specialty coffee, Francini Café has enriched Worcester’s local food scene by introducing residents and visitors to traditional Colombian delicacies, including handmade arepas, pandebonos, empanadas, and plantains.
Their story is a testament to how independent businesses enrich our high streets, not just economically, but culturally.
“We are incredibly grateful to the people of Worcester who have supported us throughout the years, from our earliest customers to the many people who continue to walk through our doors today. We have built friendships, created jobs, worked alongside other local businesses and, most importantly, become part of the fabric of the community we now call home.”
At Worcester BID, we are thrilled to celebrate Francini Café’s 12-year anniversary in our city. Their journey from the mountains of Quindío to the streets of Worcester demonstrates the strength, passion, and warmth of our local business community.

Worcester Porcelain Reimagined As New Contemporary Art Exhibition Opens At Museum Of Royal Worcester
Ornament Unbound: Tissue Transferware Reframed opens 10 September 2026, launching the Museum's major two-year contemporary art programme, Under the Glaze.
The Museum of Royal Worcester is inviting audiences to see Worcester porcelain differently as it launches Under the Glaze: Re-viewing Worcester Porcelain's Art & Design, a major new contemporary art programme exploring the connections between historic craftsmanship, creative practice and today's artists.
The first exhibition, Ornament Unbound: Tissue Transferware Reframed, opens to the public on 10 September 2026 and features new work by Worcestershire-based interdisciplinary artist Lisa Sheppy.
Drawing on extensive research in the Museum's collections and archives, Sheppy explores tissue transferware, a pioneering industrial printing technique first developed at the Worcester porcelain factory in the 1750s. The technique enabled intricate designs to be transferred onto ceramic surfaces and became an important part of Worcester's celebrated decorative tradition.
For Ornament Unbound, Sheppy combines historic ceramic printing methods with 21st-century digital drawing and laser engraving, creating a new body of work that brings a historic process into contemporary artistic practice.
The exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to look beyond the finished porcelain object and discover the skills, experimentation, technology and creative decisions that lie behind it.
Lisa Sheppy said:
“Tissue transferware is a fascinating meeting point between craftsmanship, technology and cultural exchange. I am thrilled to bring this to life through my new exhibition Ornament Unbound: Tissue Transferware Reframed. I hope to open up this historic technique to new audiences and show how these skills can inspire contemporary creative practice.”
SEE THE ARTIST AT WORK

The exhibition will be accompanied by a programme of Artist in Residence days, giving visitors the opportunity to meet Lisa Sheppy, see elements of the creative process first-hand and discover how historic techniques can be transformed through contemporary approaches.
A programme of hands-on creative workshops will also invite visitors to experiment with ideas inspired by Worcester porcelain, pattern and making.
The project includes opportunities for Heart of Worcestershire College and University of Worcester students, community groups and former Royal Worcester factory workers to engage with the Museum's collections and the contemporary artists involved.
Museum Director Kate Travers said:
“Worcester porcelain has a remarkable history of creativity, craftsmanship and innovation, and today these objects continue to inspire new ideas. Under the Glaze allows us to connect historic skills with contemporary skills and communities, creating new ways for people to explore, question and enjoy Worcester porcelain's art and design heritage.”
FROM THE FACTORY TO THE FUTURE
Supported by the Headley Trust and Arts Council England through the National Lottery Project Grants Unlocking Collections scheme, Under the Glaze is a two-year programme running from September 2026 to October 2027.
The programme will bring together contemporary artists, students, communities and former Royal Worcester workers with the Museum's internationally significant collection.
The Museum cares for more than 10,000 ceramic objects and over 100,000 archive records, preserving the stories of the designers, artists, craftspeople and communities behind one of Britain's most significant porcelain manufacturers.
Following Ornament Unbound, artist Matt J Smith will create new work for the second exhibition in the programme, opening in March 2027. His project will take Worcester's iconic figurines as a starting point for conversations about identity, representation and cultural exchange.
Kate Travers added:
“This programme gives us the opportunity to make our collections more accessible, relevant and inspiring to new audiences. By bringing together artists, communities and historic collections, we can celebrate Worcester's porcelain heritage while exploring the questions and stories that matter today.”

A spotlight on the new escape room The Servant’s Secret at The Commandery

The newest escape room experience at historic site The Commandery, The Servant’s Secret, has officially been testing teams as part of the expanded Commandery Quest offerings in Worcester city centre.
In new game The Servant’s Secret, which opened in May 2026, players will step into the shoes of the servants of the house. A precious vase has disappeared, and the servants must catch the porcelain thief. Are they a fellow servant, or could it be the cold, commanding housekeeper, Miss Crow?
Set in the venue’s historic rooms, the new game challenges groups of 2 to 8 players. Players must navigate the interactive storylines, search for physical clues, and solve historical puzzles to identify the thief before Miss Crow holds innocent servants responsible!

The King’s Seal opened under the name Commandery Quest in 2022. Its story follows a notorious criminal Arty Snitch. He is determined to steal the famous Great Seal of King Charles II, said to have been hidden at The Commandery centuries ago. It’s up to the game players to find the treasure in time – before he makes off with it.
We spoke to Helen Manning from The Commandery who said: “The escape rooms are such a unique, fun way to experience one of Worcester’s most historic buildings. Both rooms are original and have been designed especially for The Commandery, so you won’t find them anywhere else! Perfect for a Christmas get-together this autumn too.”
