The Worcester Pear Trail is here!
A brand-new heritage trail celebrating Worcester’s rich history and iconic pear connection is now live!.

Created in partnership between Worcester BID and Visit Worcestershire, The Worcester Pear Trail will run from 20th July until 4th September and will feature 10 heritage-themed pear sculptures displayed in business windows across Worcester city centre.
To further transform the city centre for the summer, 35 business windows will also be adorned with bespoke pear blossom artwork, creating a wider experience for residents and visitors alike.
The pear sculptures and blossom window artwork for the campaign have been designed by Worcester BID’s Creative Lead, Catt Standen.
Samantha McCarthy, CEO of Worcester BID said, “We are delighted to be partnering with Visit Worcestershire to help drive tourism into Worcester and encourage more people to experience everything the city has to offer. The Worcester Pear Trail provides a fun and interactive way for visitors and residents alike to explore Worcester’s rich heritage while supporting local businesses throughout the summer.”
Alongside the trail, Worcester BID will also host a series of community workshops in collaboration with The Hive, engaging pupils from local schools to help create a pear blossom archway installation.
The project takes inspiration from Queen Elizabeth I’s historic visit to Worcester, where she was greeted by an orchard of pear trees and famously picked a pear directly from one of the trees herself, a story which remains an important part of the city’s heritage today and pears can be spotted across the city centre to this day!
Lorna Robinson, Visitor Economy and Destination Manager of Visit Worcestershire said, “The Worcester Pear Trail shows what can be achieved through strong partnership working, bringing together our businesses, creativity and heritage to deliver something truly accessible & engaging for the summer. It offers a simple, fun way for families and visitors to explore Worcester’s rich history, supporting our wider ‘Summer of Heritage’ campaign across the County. Most importantly, it’s another reason for people to spend time in the city, discover its stories, and see first-hand why the City and wider Worcestershire holds such an important place in England’s history.”
Each pear sculpture will feature a QR code, allowing visitors to learn more about Worcester’s pear heritage and the stories behind each trail location. Participants will be able to complete the trail digitally via a free pass (PRESS HERE TO SIGN UP) or using printed trail maps that can be picked up at The Worcester Tourist Information Centre
As you hunt for the Pear sculptures, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for our pear blossom themed window at across the city, and if you’ve completed the sculpture trail and want to find all of the window art locations, you can view the map here. WINDOW ART LOCATIONS

Simply Beautiful Celebrates 17 Years
In an ever-shifting high street landscape, reaching a 17th anniversary is a true testament to quality, passion, and genuine community connection. This year marks 17 years since Simply Beautiful first opened its doors on St Swithin’s Street, bringing world-class beauty and skincare treatments to the heart of Worcester.
“It’s hard to believe we have been going for 17 years. Running a business is complex and not always easy. There are good times and hard times, but, like anything, I think the key is to believe in yourself and persevere. I truly love my business, and I enjoy working there immensely.”
Founded in 2009 by Sarah Johnson, the salon has grown into one of the city's most beloved independent sanctuaries.
Before setting down roots in Worcester, Sarah spent time travelling the globe, working aboard luxury cruise liners and treating high-profile clientele. Bringing that five-star, high-end experience back to land, she traded a life at sea for a permanent home on St Swithin’s Street, building a passionate team and a deeply loyal client base along the way.
“Before launching Simply Beautiful, I travelled the world and managed the spa, salon & gym areas on luxury cruise liners. I did this for 10 years, and this career path instilled within me exceptional standards and a high level of customer care and service. It was an incredible 10 years, but it was time to come home in 2009.
Running Simply Beautiful is of course, very different but equally rewarding; what I'm most proud of is the relationships and connections made between myself, staff and customers.
Having a community-based business gives the opportunity not only for repeat clients, but Simply Beautiful has become a place not only where we provide exceptional services, but where you can chat, confide and feel a part of something.
Over the years I have seen many of my clients through life's journey. Weddings, births, illness & loss, what is going on in our clients' lives matters to us; we are a small part of it and vice versa. Over the years, many of our clients have been a great source of support and motivation for me also.”
The beauty landscape has undergone a dramatic transformation since 2009. From viral social media beauty trends to rapid advances in non-invasive aesthetic technology and tailored skin therapy, staying relevant requires constant adaptation. Simply Beautiful has quietly expanded its offering, incorporating advanced treatments like Dermalogica Pro peels and Mesoestetic skin therapies alongside timeless classics, staying true to its high standards.

“So much has changed over the years: the town itself, demand, the internet; it’s such a rollercoaster. One thing that I feel has kept us relevant is consistency, standards and tradition.
I don't chop and change services, and I don't follow trends; I relate to my customer by offering treatments and using brands that I invest in and believe in.
Beauty shouldn't be competitive or extreme; in our eyes, it's making the best of who you truly are, and we encourage and support our clients to be their most confident. On many occasions, clients will say to me or ask me if they need something, and my response is always that you don't need anything, but if having a certain treatment makes you feel good and you enjoy it, then I say do it!!
All of the brands we use are top of the range, ethical and kind.
We are more expensive than your average walk-in nail bar, but that is because we are not a nail bar; we offer so much more and go above and beyond to deliver a solid range of skincare and personal care services, and we are expert rated with Dermalogica, 5-star rated with Bio Sculpture, Nouveau lash and St Tropez.”
Seventeen years on, as Sarah and her team approach this milestone, their focus remains right where it has always been: helping local clients look and feel their absolute best.
Part of that enduring success comes down to team loyalty. Amie, a long-term employee, has been with Simply Beautiful for over 15 years. Speaking of Amie, Sarah added:
“I'm so lucky to still be working with her; she looks after the clients with patience, kindness and exceptional standards. She is a true perfectionist, and her treatments always have that high-quality finish”
Jayne Becket of jbfaclinics.com also works alongside the team.
“An absolute master in aesthetics, absolute top of her game, Jayne has been hosting monthly clinics with us since 2009 and I have learnt so much from her over the years and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending clients to her.”
Recently, Nathan, has also joined as resident hair stylist within the Styling Lounge sector of the business. So you really can visit Simply Beautiful for all of your beauty, health, hair and personal care services.
For anyone in Worcester who has passed by 3 St Swithin’s Street but is yet to step inside, Sarah has a simple message:
“Anyone new can expect a kind, warm and friendly welcome, a great treatment, a beverage and they ,can expect to leave us feeling better about themselves and that they have had a good experience, if not an exceptional service.”

Here's to 17 years of independent business success in Worcester… and many more to come.

Happy 1st Birthday, Balance Café and Yoga
Balance Cafe & Yoga is officially celebrating its first anniversary, marking one year since bringing its unique, three-story wellness journey to 50 New Street.
When Worcester local, nutritionist, and registered yoga teacher Belle Parrish launched the business, her goal was to create a warm, supportive space where health and happiness could truly meet. Having lived with Type 1 Diabetes and Coeliac Disease since childhood, Belle’s personal relationship with food inspired a menu that celebrates deep nourishment without restriction.
Over the last twelve months, the ground floor has become a bustling local hotspot for its signature organic acai bowls, nutritionist-approved smoothies, ceremonial-grade matcha, and speciality "Balance" blend coffee—which guests can enjoy inside the peaceful cafe or out in the secret courtyard garden.
But the cafe is just the beginning of the journey. On the first floor, the boutique yoga studio offers a quiet retreat for movement and breathwork, while the top floor houses dedicated healing rooms for expert holistic practitioners offering massage, acupuncture, and reflexology. Together, the team has successfully built an all-encompassing wellness haven where visitors can take a breath and truly switch off.

Happy 3RD Birthday JNCTN!

A popular city-centre social spot is celebrating a major milestone this month as JNCTN officially marks three years open in Worcester.
Perfectly positioned right next to Foregate Street Station, the independent, all-day café first opened its doors on July 3, 2021. Serving as a bustling meeting point for commuters, remote workers, and residents seeking great food and a relaxed atmosphere, it’s fast become a staple in the City.
A Hub Designed to Adapt
From the outset, JNCTN was envisioned as a versatile space that seamlessly shifts to match whatever its guests need. Step inside on a weekday morning, and you’ll find it fueling the morning rush with quick takeaways and quiet workspace areas equipped with free Wi-Fi. By afternoon, it transforms into a laid-back brunch destination.
The business has continually evolved its offering, matching seasonal shifts with fresh additions to its menu, from their popular Shakshuka baked eggs and house pastrami to vibrant new summer plates and even the £10 before 10 AM menu. Behind the scenes, the team’s focus has remained firmly on creating an inclusive environment that brings people together.
The JNCTN team said: “Three years in, JNCTN has grown from the idea of bringing great café food to the city into what it is now, with the added evening events we now regularly throw! (Our SMKD nights plus regular wine tasting nights hosted by our great friend Jake at Birmingham Wine School). Our favourite moments have just been seeing week-by-week the Worcester community get behind us, and that has meant everything. We feel incredibly grateful to be part of such a thriving independent scene here. The support from fellow local businesses and customers alike has been the backbone of everything we’ve built. Reaching this milestone wouldn’t have been possible without a city that champions independents the way Worcester does. Here’s to many more years serving this community!”
Rooted in Local Partnership
A core element of JNCTN’s identity over the past three years has been its dedication to supporting the local independent economy. This is most notably seen in their coffee offering. Every cup poured at the café is sourced from Method Coffee Roasters, a renowned speciality roastery operating right beneath Worcester’s nearby railway arches.
Discover the Hidden Garden
While many recognise the café for its beautiful interiors, the venue also boasts a peaceful secret garden tucked away at the back, offering a surprisingly quiet outdoor sanctuary to enjoy a mid-afternoon pick-me-up away from the city bustle, especially whilst we have enjoyed this spate of warm weather.

To view JNCTN’s latest seasonal menu, check opening times, or plan a visit to celebrate their birthday month, head to jnctn-worcester.co.uk.
The family story behind Worcester’s Francini Café de Colombia
For over a decade, Francini Café de Colombia has been bringing a vibrant splash of South American colour and warmth to Worcester's independent food and drink scene.
Located on Angel Place, the café is the passion project of husband-and-wife owners Francini and Sandra. After 14 years of travelling the UK organising exhibitions, Francini noticed a clear gap for high-quality, authentic coffee.

In June 2014, the duo decided to put down roots in Worcester, creating a space designed to make visitors feel like they've stepped into another country. Every detail is deeply personal, down to the intricate leaves and flowers hand-painted on the walls by Sandra herself.
What truly sets the independent café apart is its direct "seed to cup" philosophy. The 100% Arabica coffee served is grown, hand-picked, and roasted on their own multigenerational family farm, nestled in the mountains of Filandia and Pijao within Colombia's Quindío Department.
By importing their harvest directly to Worcester, Francini and Sandra not only ensure peak quality but also bypass the middleman entirely, allowing them to directly support neighbouring local farmers in their home region: “no franchise templates, just one family, one farm, and a cup made with all the love it takes to grow, roast, paint and pour it”.

Celebrating 15 Years of Helping The Community Hear Better
Worcester Hearing Centre is proud to celebrate 15 wonderful years of helping the community hear better.
Tom and Victoria Dixon started the business in 2011 with no customer database, no appointments in the diary, and a simple belief that people deserved hearing care that felt personal, honest, and truly supportive.
With Victoria’s late mother, Jean, welcoming people on reception, the practice began as a family effort, and those family values still guide us today. From those early days, Worcester Hearing Centre has grown into a close-knit team based at 5 Cornmarket, in the heart of Worcester. Today, their audiologists, hearing care assistants, and reception and admin team work together, all dedicated to making sure every patient feels welcomed, listened to, and cared for.
“Over the years, we have had the privilege of helping thousands of people hear more clearly, feel more confident, and reconnect with the conversations and moments that matter most. Whether someone visits us for a hearing test, hearing aids, ear wax removal, or ongoing support, our promise has always been the same: to offer expert hearing care, a personal touch, and a service people can truly trust.
To every patient, family member, friend, and local supporter who has been part of our journey, thank you. Your trust, loyalty, and kind recommendations mean the world to us.”
Here’s to many more years of friendly faces, clearer conversations, and helping the community hear better.

Worcester Griller Blazes a Trail at National Culinary Finals

The heat was turned up to the maximum last week as the finest culinary talent from across the UK and Ireland gathered for the spectacular conclusion of the 2026 Nando’s Grillers’ Challenge.
Among the elite line-up of competing chefs was Worcester’s very own Paige, who successfully secured her place as one of just 14 national finalists chosen from hundreds of branches nationwide.
The high-stakes competition saw the finalists go head-to-head in an intense showcase of skill, precision, and passion, all vying for a coveted spot on the plane to represent the region at the International Finals in Australia.
What it Takes to Pass the Ultimate Test
The Grillers’ Challenge is no ordinary cooking competition; it is a rigorous, point-based examination of a chef's mastery over the flame. Finalists are evaluated by a panel of expert food development judges on technical elements that civilian chicken lovers might never even notice.
Judging begins the moment a griller steps into the kitchen, monitoring strict food safety protocols right down to impeccable hand-washing techniques. Once at the grill, competitors are scored on:
Paige delivered an exceptional performance under this immense pressure, demonstrating the high standards, technique, and craft that the Worcester branch has become known for. While she narrowly missed out on the top spot, her achievement in reaching the top 14 proves that Worcester houses some of the premier grilling talent in the country.
Garry Duncan, Operations Director of Nando’s UK and Ireland, said: “Huge congratulations to Paige as well as the other finalists. Making it this far is an incredible achievement, and a real reflection of the dedication, skill and passion our Grillers bring to their restaurant every day.”
The UK and Ireland leg of the competition has involved over 500 restaurant heats, 54 quarter-final heats and 7 semi-finals, culminating in the ultimate UK final. It is so much more than a cook-off; each round tests the Griller’s technical skill, passion and knowledge of what makes the tastiest PERi-PERi chicken.
Garry continued: “Grillers’ Challenge goes far beyond competition. It shines a spotlight on what makes Nando’s special, our people, our flavour, and our Southern African heritage. It’s also a chance to recognise and celebrate the incredible talent across our restaurants, inspiring individuals to push themselves further and grow on a global stage.”
For local food lovers wanting to experience national-finalist-level grilling, the Worcester Nando’s team is ready to fire up the grills.
The restaurant is centrally located in the heart of the city centre at 55-59 Friar Street, Worcester, WR1 2NA, right next door to the Vue Cinema and just a short walk from Cathedral Square. Open daily from 11:30 am to 10:30 pm, it is the perfect spot to stop by, enjoy some perfectly seared PERi-PERi chicken, and congratulate Paige in person!
Toys and Games: The story behind the independent trading for over 32 years!
Toys and Games of Worcester is celebrating an incredible milestone on the high street, marking over 32 years of trading in the heart of the city centre. Established back in 1994, the family-run shop has grown to become a cornerstone of Worcester’s independent retail scene and a beloved destination for generations of local families.
Over the decades, the business has adapted and grown, cementing its reputation as a specialist haven for trading cards, board games, construction toys, and model kits. Their dedication to offering a unique, ever-changing stock alongside unbeatable local knowledge even earned them national recognition when they were named the BTHA Independent Toy Retailer of the Year (Single Store) in 2021.
Reflecting on their journey and their deep connection to the city, the team said:
“For the past 32 years, Toys and Games of Worcester has been keeping the people of Worcester happily distracted from doing the gardening! As a family-run business, we’re proud to specialise in trading cards, board games, construction toys and model kits, with exciting new products arriving so often that even we struggle to keep up.
We’ve been lucky enough to build a fantastic team and an even more fantastic community of customers, many of whom have become friends over the years. Open seven days a week for most of the year, we’re always delighted to welcome familiar faces and first-time visitors alike.
Worcester is a brilliant city to call home, and we’re proud to play a small part in its community. So, whether you’re eight or eighty, pop in and say hello—we’d love to see you!”
Remaining open seven days a week, in its Broad Street base, for the majority of the year, the storefront continues to bring a vital energy and passion to the city centre, proving that traditional, independent toy shops still hold a magical and necessary place on the modern high street.
Whether you are a lifelong regular looking for the latest product drop or a first-time visitor discovering their shelves for the very first time, Tim and the team are always ready with a warm welcome.

A Spotlight on the Community, Stonemasons, Rave Run Club!
Innovative Run Club Highlights Worcester’s Focus on Community and Active Lifestyles

A unique fitness initiative originally highlighted in a national report by BBC News, Rave Run provides a highly social, accessible outdoor activity for the community.
Founded locally by former British soldier Tom Adams, managing director of the independent heritage business Stonemasons of Worcester, Tom wanted to create a safe, welcoming, and fun space where people could come together and enjoy running, regardless of their ability, especially during dark winter nights.
What he didn’t expect was what happened next.
More Than Fitness: A Lifeline Against Loneliness
As the weeks went by, people began reaching out to Tom, sharing just how much Rave Run meant to them. Many spoke openly about battling loneliness, especially during the winter months, and thanked him for creating a place where they felt they truly belonged. It quickly became clear that this was about so much more than putting one foot in front of the other; it was about making sure no one had to do it alone. Rave Run had become a vital support network and a community that people genuinely relied on to improve their mental wellbeing, build confidence, and make lifelong friendships.
For Tom, balancing the meticulous restoration work at his city-centre masonry business with the fast-paced energy of the run club comes down to a singular focus on community building.
"As the owner of Stonemasons of Worcester, I spend my working life supporting families through the loss of loved ones," Tom says. "That experience has shown me just how important community, connection, and support really are. I realised those same values were being created through Rave Run, and that gave the project a much deeper purpose."

What started as a single fortnightly run has grown into a regional movement with real meaning, and other towns are now inviting Rave Run to bring that community to them. The initiative recently launched in Gloucester, where more than 200 people came together to run. This August, Rave Run is expanding to Newport, with over 300 people already signed up before the first event has even taken place!
Tom’s ultimate vision is to give Worcester an evening running community in the same way Parkrun has transformed weekends. He wants people to know that every single week, there is a place they can turn up, feel welcome, and be part of something bigger than themselves.
Even during the lighter summer evenings, the organisation maintains its distinct style. Together with team leaders, the group organises runs departing from central hubs like Cathedral Square. Operating under the philosophy that the movement is all about fun miles, good music, and even better vibes, the club intentionally moves away from rigid performance metrics, utilising portable sound systems to turn a routine workout into an inclusive, celebratory fitness party.

To take this movement to the next level, Rave Run is now actively looking for sponsors and local businesses who believe in this vision and want to help the community grow. With the right support, the club can reach thousands more people across Worcestershire, helping tackle loneliness, improve wellbeing, and create a stronger, more connected community.
By fostering an inviting and highly visible environment, Rave Run demonstrates how creative grassroots programming, driven by dedicated local business owners, can work alongside formal civic infrastructure to make Worcester healthier, happier, and more connected, one run at a time.

Meet 3rd generation handcrafted jewellers, Gabrielle’s of Worcester

Gabrielle’s Jewellery is a powerhouse of local craftsmanship and community connection in Worcester city centre. While their beautiful boutique is a relatively fresh addition to the high street, having opened it’s central venue on The Shambles two years ago, the business brings an incredible foundation of 3rd-generation master craftsmanship right to our doorstep. For the team, the true focus of their physical store is the personal, lifelong relationships they are building across the counter.
Operating with a dedicated on-site workshop, the independent jeweller perfectly blends time-honoured family heritage with a modern, welcoming approach to service. Every piece created or restored in the workshop carries a story, transforming precious metals and gemstones into lifelong memories for the local community.
Reflecting on their role in the city, the team at Gabrielle’s said:
“We believe that jewellery is so much more than something you wear. It’s a reminder of the people you love, the milestones you’ve reached and the moments you’ll never forget. Knowing we play a small part in those stories is what inspires everything we create, and we’re proud to do that for the people of Worcester every day - whether that’s an engagement, wedding jewellery, an anniversary or celebrating a personal milestone.
It’s a privilege to be trusted with those moments, and it’s something we’ll never take for granted.”

Looking ahead, it is shaping up to be an incredibly impactful summer for the young bespoke jewellers. Gabrielle’s is preparing to launch a brand-new collection later this season called The For You Collection, designed specifically to celebrate women’s personal journeys, achievements, and individual milestones.
To mark the launch of the new collection, the team is channelling their passion into community action by organising The Rise Climb. This special initiative will bring together local women to climb a mountain, challenge themselves, and raise vital funds in support of Women’s Aid.
Whether you are looking to design a bespoke piece of jewellery, celebrate a milestone of your own, or support their upcoming charity climb, the team at Gabrielle’s invites you to step inside and say hello.

Worcestershire County Cricket Club celebrate great first months of trade at new Club Shop

Worcestershire County Cricket Club’s strategic decision to repurpose its iconic 70-year-old scoreboard into a modern retail outlet has yielded extraordinary financial results, demonstrating significant commercial resilience and immense supporter backing.
Data released by the club confirms a remarkable trajectory for retail operations. Retail sales have surged by a staggering 330% overall this year, a momentum catalysed by a record-breaking start to the year when official kit launch sales spiked by a staggering 571% and resulted in multiple product line sell-outs. Following that initial surge, the official launch of the new on-site shop in April has sustained this growth, with retail performance improving by 30% compared to the same period last year.
The Club has placed on record its sincere thanks to all supporters and visitors who have purchased items from the new shop. Every individual purchase, from official shirts, caps, and hoodies to club gifts, directly helps support the club's development both on and off the field.
Mitigating Risk for Long-Term Returns
The commercial success of the project is heavily underpinned by structural risk management. Designed in partnership with Stadium Support Services to mitigate the frequent challenges of winter flooding at New Road, the development prioritised a completely demountable, flood-resilient framework to protect the club’s high-performing retail assets.
The technical specifications that safeguard this unit include:
- 100% Demountable Fixtures: Every single point-of-sale system, internal fixture, and merchandise display element is engineered to be fully dismantled and safely stored during the off-season.
- Elevated Infrastructure: Electrical systems were entirely routed from above rather than through standard floor connections, heavily reducing future flood-damage overheads and recovery times.
- Rapid-Turnaround Materials: Durable wall and flooring finishes were selected specifically to allow for efficient cleaning, repairs, and redecorating between seasons.
The refurbished retail space serves as the anchor point for the matchday visitor village. By integrating the shop directly into the footprint of the historic infrastructure, the club has successfully converted local heritage into a thriving revenue stream that directly reinvests back into the organisation's future.
Joe Tromans, Chief Revenue Officer, commented:
“We are striving to consistently deliver the best visitor experience we can, on both matchdays and non-matchdays, and finding innovative ways to celebrate the unique heritage of new Road whilst improving the overall visitor experience, which is at the core of our strategy here at the club.
“Working with SSS and utilising their extensive experience in the sports sector is integral to finding innovative solutions to improve New Road. We look forward to working with them of the course of many years.”

Tramps, Mode, and Velvet Celebrate A Hat Trick with Best Bar None Accreditations this July
Worcester’s evening economy is celebrating another win for safety and hospitality excellence. Hot on the heels of Bottles Wine Bar becoming the city’s first accredited venue of 2026, three more staple names of the Worcester nightlife scene have officially passed the rigorous assessment: Tramps Nightclub, Mode Sports Bar and Grill, and Velvet Nightclub.

By securing the national Best Bar None accreditation, the management teams at Tramps, Mode, and Velvet have demonstrated an absolute commitment to customer safety, rigorous staff training, and responsible operations.
For years, Tramps, Mode, and Velvet have been at the heart of weekend nightlife for thousands of locals and students. Securing this Home Office-backed accreditation proves that big, high-energy venues can successfully pair a great party atmosphere with the highest possible standards of care.
The independent auditing process leaves no stone unturned, assessing everything from effective crowd management and welfare policies to emergency protocols and alcohol harm-reduction strategies.
By achieving the Best Bar None stamp of approval, these venues offer immediate reassurance to partygoers, regulators, and the local community:
- Enhanced Customer Trust: Visitors can step through the doors knowing the venue prioritises their safety and well-being.
- Stronger Partnerships: The scheme fosters active collaboration between business owners, Worcester BID, and local police forces.
- A Safer Night Out: A higher concentration of accredited bars and clubs directly contributes to reducing alcohol-related incidents across the entire city centre.
With a premium wine bar and three major late-night venues now leading the charge for 2026, Worcester is fast gaining a reputation as a gold standard for safe, welcoming hospitality.
Worcester BID continues to invite and support licensed premises of all sizes, from cosy independent pubs to bustling cocktail lounges, to undertake the assessment.

The global event, which runs annually throughout July, is designed to highlight the vital social and economic impact that smaller, locally-owned retailers have on their communities. SO Podiatry showcases clinical rehabilitation successes through SO Pilates; Worcester's Only Clinically-Led Reformer Pilates Studio
SO Pilates (branch of SO Podiatry) was founded by Stephanie Owen, the driving force behind SO Podiatry at 28 Foregate Street. Stephanie had spent years working with patients who needed more than a referral, they needed real, hands-on movement support. Too often, clients were being sent to generic therapists or personal trainers with no clinical feedback, no progression tracking, and no one truly understanding the complexity of their condition.
"Clients were falling through the cracks," explains Stephanie. "They'd finish a course of treatment and be pointed towards a gym or a standard class — but there was no bridge. No one was asking: how do you actually move? What does your body need right now? I knew we could do better."
The answer was Reformer Pilates... but not as most people know it. The Reformer's unique design allows for precise, low-impact, controlled movement, making it the ideal environment for clinical rehabilitation. The SO Pilates studio gave Stephanie and her team the ability to be genuinely hands-on: to observe how a client moves, identify compensations and weaknesses, and build a programme tailored entirely around them.
Every client's journey begins with a full clinical assessment. From there, a personalised programme is built specifically for them.
The stories coming out of SO Pilates speak for themselves. Janet, 57, had resigned herself to limited mobility following surgery; she walked back out of the studio standing taller and pain-free. Charles, 89 who had quietly accepted that independence was slipping away, until a personalised programme helped them rediscover strength, stability, and confidence; he feels independent, can manage his shopping and is pleased to be able to walk his dog every day. We also have Clients who live with chronic pain, and for years, they have tried therapy after therapy, who finally found movement that not only didn't hurt, but healed, empowered and gave them back confidence in themselves.
SO Pilates works with a wide range of clients, including those recovering from injury or orthopaedic surgery, people managing chronic pain conditions, older adults looking to maintain or regain mobility and independence, and anyone who has been told to "keep active" but has no safe, supported way to do so.
The SO Pilates model is designed to guide clients through a complete journey. It begins with intensive 1-to-1 or small-group sessions where the clinical team can get up close, make real-time adjustments, and ensure every movement is working for the individual. As clients progress and build confidence, they transition into group Reformer classes — a vibrant, supportive community environment where they continue to build strength, control, and wellbeing at their own pace.
Classes run across six days a week, offering maximum flexibility for busy lives and varying recovery schedules.
A Special Offer for New Clients
SO Pilates is inviting new clients to begin their journey with the Personalised Reformer Programme.
The programme includes a private 1-to-1 class and assessment with one of the SO Pilates team. This is your opportunity to learn the Reformer properly, understand how to use it safely, and let the clinical team see how you move, accommodating any injuries or limitations and tailoring the experience precisely to you.
You also receive 4 group class credits, bookable across 6 days a week — meaning you can come twice a week for a fortnight or once a week for a full month. It is the perfect way to settle in, build familiarity, and start your SO Pilates journey with confidence.

University Business School’s ARC Programme brings local organisations closer to the student community
Worcester Business School is expanding its network of regional employers for its innovative ARC (Aspire, Reward, Connect) Programme, a unique partnership scheme built to connect the local business community directly with higher education.

The initiative is designed to bring local organisations closer to both students and the active curriculum, helping to develop student aspirations, reward academic achievements, and foster long-term professional relationships within the city centre. By bridging this gap, the programme aims to inject fresh talent into Worcester's commercial core while giving students vital exposure to real-world business environments.
For students, the ARC framework enriches their modules with first-hand professional experience. Participants have the opportunity to engage in field trips, specialised simulations, and direct guest lectures from industry professionals. Furthermore, student achievements are actively incentivised and rewarded with tangible benefits, including cash prizes, short work placements, site visits, and professional mentoring or shadowing opportunities.
For local businesses and BID members, registering as an official ARC Partner offers a structured platform to impact the city's future workforce while gaining significant organisational benefits, including:
- Promotion & Visibility: Partner logos are featured across the university’s website, course pages, UCAS portals, and official module documentation, with additional invitations to present at Open Days and Careers Fairs.
- Networking & Talent Access: Employers can connect with other members of the regional business community, secure early access to talented students and academics, and share expertise at the dedicated WBS Business Talks series.
- Organisational Impact: Partners have the opportunity to help shape course modules, deliver specialised guest lectures, and provide professional development for their own staff through student mentoring and external speaking roles.
To sustain the value-adding activities of the scheme, ARC Partners contribute a financial donation each year to the central ARC Pot. Alongside this contribution, businesses engage in a flexible mix of collaborative activities, such as providing live case studies or projects for students to work on, offering short work-shadowing placements, and attending the end-of-year WBS ARC Festival.
Local business owners, independent retailers, and corporate firms interested in making a real impact in the Worcester business community can connect with the development team to explore partnership options.
To find out more about becoming an ARC Partner, contact the Business Development Team at arc@worc.ac.uk or visit the university portal at https://www.worcester.ac.uk/about/academic-schools/worcester-business-school/for-organisations/arc-programme.aspx

GJS Dillon Commercial confirms two new lettings
Worcester city centre's independent commercial mix has been strengthened following the completion of two key lettings on King Street and Fish Street, introducing unique hospitality and leisure concepts to high-footfall locations.

The dual completions welcome Rizzo to 3 King Street and Glazey to 3 Fish Street, marking a positive milestone for the city's commercial landscape as new independent businesses choose to invest directly in Worcester.
Rizzo brings an authentic Italian delicatessen and wine club experience to King Street, featuring an artisan selection of imported Italian wines, regional ingredients, and expert, knowledgeable staff. Meanwhile, Glazey has renewed on Fish Street, providing a cosy, creative pottery painting studio designed for all skill levels and a dedicated space ideal for staff team-building sessions, family outings, or casual get-togethers.
The lettings reflect an ongoing evolution in high street demand, moving toward experience-driven spaces. The transactions were handled by Worcestershire commercial property firm GJS Dillon, whose team notes that flexibility in unit use is proving crucial to securing modern, active occupiers.
Roy Wilkes, Commercial Negotiator at GJS Dillon, stated:
“This is a reflection of the wider shift we're seeing on the high street, where flexibility on use class is opening up real opportunities for the right occupiers.
This is a good reminder to keep an open mind. We work with Landlords and Tenants who think beyond the traditional use for a unit. Recently we have seen traditional offices become great spaces for beauticians, hairdressers and tattooists and these are often the ones unlocking the best outcomes for all. Whether that's converting tired office space, repositioning a vacant retail unit, or finding the right hospitality concept for a high-footfall location.”
The arrival of both independent brands is expected to positively impact footfall and enrich the local economic core, emphasising the resilience of Worcester's commercial market when supported by innovative operators.”

Twisted Spoon in Town Turns 1!
Independent venue Twisted Spoon In Town is marking the start of its second year of city centre trading, celebrating 12 months since husband-and-wife owners Louise and Mark brought their popular dining concept to one of Worcester's most historic streets.
After ten successful years operating in Upton Snodsbury, the duo expanded their footprint into the heart of the city centre at 12 Friar Street. Since its launch, the venue has established a distinct identity within Worcester’s competitive independent food scene by blending traditional café favourites with highly personalised culinary alternatives.
The venue has become particularly well-regarded for its daytime menus and afternoon teas served with a twist, as well as its evening transition into a specialised grazing restaurant. The evening Smorgasbord concept allows guests to build custom platters from distinct food selections, served alongside a curated menu of wines, craft beers, and cocktails.
Reflecting on their first full year in the city centre and looking forward to the future, owners Louise and Mark Baker said:
‘We have been open a year now! Where did that go?! Everyone has been so friendly and welcoming as we settled into Friar Street; the cakes are flying out for sure, and our evening Smorgas grazing boards are something different for everyone… do pop in to see us!’

54321! ‘Standby for action, we are about to launch.’ Museum After Hours is back!
Worcester’s cultural night-time offer is set for a unique addition this July as the Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum announces a special after-hours opening. On Friday 24th July, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, the museum will open its doors for a dedicated evening event centred around its major summer exhibition: 54321FAB!

Running from 4th July to 6th September 2026, the exhibition pays homage to mid-century pop culture and the much-loved 1960s TV shows of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. Visitors will have an unprecedented opportunity to see screen-used, painstakingly restored original puppets, including Lady Penelope and Joe 90, alongside working replicas of the heroic Thunderbirds pilots. Iconic studio models of vehicles like Fireball XL5 and the Thunderbirds craft will also be on display, alongside original comic art and rare 1960s memorabilia.
The special after-hours event on 24th July brings this nostalgic world to life with a distinct social atmosphere. Designed to attract both local residents and regional visitors, the evening will feature live music performances and themed refreshments alongside the gallery displays. Attendees are even encouraged to embrace the theme with matching retro attire, creating an immersive experience within the historic building.
The initiative reflects a growing trend where cultural heritage sites utilise late-night openings to engage new audiences and stimulate the local leisure economy outside of standard operating hours.
"Events of this nature are incredibly valuable for Worcester’s evening economy," said Worcester BID. "By transforming a traditional daytime asset into a vibrant night-time destination, Museums Worcestershire is providing a sophisticated alternative for Friday night footfall, benefiting the wider city centre ecosystem for wider demographics."
Civic leaders have welcomed the initiative as an excellent example of creative programming that keeps Worcester’s high street active, engaging, and competitive into the evening.
Beyond the late-night event, a FAB programme of activities will run throughout the summer, including spotlight talks by leading illustrator Graham Bleathman and Marc Silk, the voice of Captain Wayne Rigby in Thunderbirds Are Go! The exhibition has been made possible with the support of Fanderson, the official Gerry and Sylvia Anderson Appreciation Society.

The initiative specifically rewards licensed venues, such as bars, pubs, and clubs, that demonstrate excellence in the responsible management of their premises. By auditing everything from staff training to safety policies, the scheme helps reduce alcohol-related crime and builds a safer, more rewarding night out for everyone.
